A Perfect Classic

Posted : 10 years, 2 months ago on 3 April 2007 12:01 (A review of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh)

I've always loved this classic, and now my daughter adores it too, and I get to see the film from a parents' perspective. It's just so beautiful, Disney really did an incredible job blending 3 animated shorts of Winnie the Pooh and turning it into a seamless film. The tunes in it are cute and catchy, such as 'I'm just a little black rain cloud', and it works so much better with kids than the more recent over-the-top Disney musical pieces found in Alladin or Lion King. Seriously, who the heck thinks kids want a full blown orchaestra piece? Just give them short and sweet tunes and they're in heaven.

The more recent Winnie the Pooh exploits from Disney, with Heffalump and other atrocities, and the mass marketing found everywhere, I can't stand, but this original classic is a true gem.

Disappointing

Posted : 10 years, 3 months ago on 26 March 2007 02:36 (A review of Capote)

I read 'In Cold Blood' for a college paper a few years back, and I loved it. It's one of the best books I ever read, and Truman Capote is an incredibly talented author. And I've seen 'In Cold Blood', the black & white classic film based on the book, and it also ranks amongst my favorite classic films. And even though I was fascinated by this film as it followed Capote's life as he wrote the book that defined his career, and the performance of Philip Seymour Hoffman was simply one of the finest acting performances ever, overall this film was a big disappointment. The story just went on and on with no real start, middle, or end. Instead, it felt like a bunch of 'a-day-in-the-life-of' scenes rather than a biopic about Capote, which is what I wanted to see.

wow

Posted : 10 years, 3 months ago on 23 March 2007 05:58 (A review of Children of Men)

This movie stunned me. It bombed at the box office, it got snubbed at the Oscars, and yet just sheer word-of-mouth has put this film in IMDB's Top250.

Without a doubt, this is easily my favorite film of 2006, heck, of the decade. Go see it people!

Unless you're a Bush-supporter neo-con, part of the shrinking republican right-wing minority. In which case, go give this film a 1/10 on IMDB and troll away, and then go back to your FOX & FRIENDS. You're missing a great episode where Bill O'Reilley is yelling at the Democrats for not supporting the Iraq war and urging complete closure of the Mexican border.
